How Our Products Are Made

All our products are made using only the fruiting body of the mushrooms that we grow ourselves. That means we take the part of the mushroom that you would cook with or see at the store and use that mushroom to produce our tinctures, tea, capsules, and powders.

Other companies use mushroom mycelium, which is analogous to the “roots” of the mushroom. It’s a part that you would never see at the store, and while there is nothing wrong with consuming mycelium, companies often use “mycelial biomass” which includes not only the mycelium but a large amount of grain filler that the mycelium was grown on. Thus, for every gram of “Lion’s Mane” they sell you, it may only have half as much of actual Lion’s Mane.

Beyond the mushrooms, we emphasize using metal and glass – minimizing as much plastic in our process as possible. We also create all our products in house – dehydrating, grinding, and packaging each product for you.

How Our Lion’s Mane Tincture Is Made

Our tincture is made from Lion’s Mane fruiting body that is submerged in food grade Ethanol alcohol for months to extract the smaller, fat-soluble molecules known as triterpenoids, including hericenones, erinacines, and other triterpenoids, lignins and sterols. We then remove the Lion’s Mane by filtering it through a sieve and heat it in hot water to remove the larger, water-soluble polysaccharides, particularly the beta-glucans. We then combine the two parts and then bottle and ship it directly to your door.

How Our Lion’s Mane Capsules and Powder Are Made

Our capsules and powder are made from subcritically extracted Lion’s Mane powder. We take the fruiting body of Lion’s Mane and subcritically extract it by heating it to 121°C (250°F) under 15 psi of pressure. This process releases a greater percentage of the water soluble compounds in Lion’s Mane. We then take the pressure cooked mushrooms and water and dehydrate them to create the powder for our capsules.

We sift that powder by hand to get the finest possible powder (around 53 microns or smaller), which ensures our powder mixes into hot and cold drinks with almost no settling. Our capsules contain the slightly less finely sifted powder (around 149 to 53 microns).
