Cordyceps Health Benefits

Cordyceps Health Benefits

Cordyceps Research

Increases Energy and Physical Performance

Cordyceps contains bioactive compounds such as cordycepin and adenosine that help increase the body’s production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the molecule responsible for delivering energy to muscles. By improving cellular energy production and oxygen utilization, Cordyceps may support endurance, reduce fatigue, and enhance exercise performance. Research has also shown Cordyceps may improve oxygen uptake and overall aerobic capacity.

Research Support:

A 2010 study found Cordyceps supplementation improved VO₂ max and exercise performance in healthy older adults.

A randomized trial found Cordyceps improved tolerance to high-intensity exercise and reduced fatigue.

Supports Respiratory Health

Cordyceps has traditionally been used to support lung function. Modern research suggests Cordyceps may help improve oxygen utilization and support respiratory capacity by reducing inflammation and improving airflow in the lungs. Some studies also suggest benefits for individuals with chronic respiratory conditions.

Research Support:

A clinical study found Cordyceps improved exercise tolerance and respiratory symptoms in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Research has also suggested Cordyceps may support lung function by improving oxygen utilization and reducing airway inflammation.

Can Support Immune Function

Cordyceps contains polysaccharides and other bioactive compounds that may help regulate immune responses. Studies suggest Cordyceps can enhance the activity of immune cells such as macrophages and natural killer (NK) cells while helping modulate inflammation.

Research Support:

A 2020 study found Cordyceps extracts stimulated immune cell activity and increased cytokine production involved in immune defense.

Another review reported Cordyceps polysaccharides demonstrated immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects in laboratory and animal models.
